Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk inspects Alexandria and Dekheila ports as part of Egypt’s drive to reform and digitize customs procedures.
Egypt’s Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk affirmed on Tuesday the government’s continued efforts to streamline and digitize customs procedures as part of a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at lowering clearance times and costs. The initiative is intended to ease production burdens and foster a more attractive climate for investment and exports.
During an inspection tour of Dekheila and Alexandria ports, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Tax Policies Sherif El-Kilany and Customs Authority Head Ahmed Amawy, Kouchouk said the ministry is working in close coordination with various government agencies to facilitate business operations and reduce administrative obstacles for investors.
He emphasized the ongoing collaboration with customs personnel to address real-world challenges and accelerate the integration of customs operations with all relevant supervisory authorities through a unified digital system.
A key focus, he noted, will be expanding the role of joint inspection committees to ensure better governance, faster clearance times, and cost efficiency for businesses.
Kouchouk described the upcoming customs facilitation package as a “critical milestone” in building trust and effective partnerships with the business community. He underscored the government's commitment to delivering integrated, responsive, and competitive customs services that promote economic growth and international trade.
The minister also highlighted the importance of developing human capital in the customs sector, stressing that improving service quality and achieving business satisfaction require significant investments in workforce training and performance.
The tour included visits to logistics centers, the “Tahya Misr” station, and joint inspection committees for hazardous materials at Alexandria Container and Cargo Handling Company and SiscoTrans.
