The discussion focused on progressing the establishment of a green ammonia production plant at Al Nasr Fertilizers in Ataqa, Suez Governorate.
Mohamed Shimi, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, welcomed a delegation from China’s Envision Energy, one of the world’s leading companies in green technology, headed by Vice President Frank Yu, alongside a delegation from Benchmark Power International, led by Chairman Ahmed Bahgat.
The discussion focused on progressing the establishment of a green ammonia production plant at Al Nasr Fertilizers in Ataqa, Suez Governorate.
The project will be developed through a partnership between Al Nasr Fertilizers and the alliance of Benchmark (as main developer) and Envision Energy (as technical knowledge provider).
The partnership includes forming a new joint venture company dedicated to implementing this environmentally friendly green ammonia project.
The project represents a major step towards supporting Egypt’s sustainable development goals and expanding its green energy export capacity.
It has already been approved to operate within a free zone framework and will rely entirely on clean, renewable energy sources.
The first phase targets an annual production capacity of 420,000 tons, with the majority planned for export to global markets.
The Minister emphasized that the project marks a significant advancement in Egypt’s transition toward a green economy and reduced carbon emissions, reinforcing the country’s position on the global clean energy map.
He added that relying on renewable energy in industrial production aligns with Egypt’s strategy to build a sustainable energy ecosystem, enhance energy security, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels—while creating new export opportunities that highlight Egypt’s potential as a regional renewable energy hub.
The participation of top-tier international companies reflects growing global confidence in Egypt’s investment environment.
Engineer Mohamed Shimi further underlined that partnership with the private sector is a core pillar of the Ministry’s strategic vision. Such partnerships enhance the capabilities of state-owned enterprises, open new investment avenues, and help attract both local and foreign investment.
He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to bringing in the latest global technologies, strengthening collaboration with leading international entities, increasing productivity and competitiveness, and supporting technology transfer and localization—ensuring sustainable growth and added value for the national economy.
