President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi warned that the continuation of the war in the Middle East is driving up prices of fuel, fertilizers, and agricultural products, creating severe economic pressures on developing countries, particularly those facing fragile economic conditions.

Speaking on Monday at the opening of the ninth edition of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026), held from March 30 to April 1, 2026, President El-Sisi stressed the urgent need to overcome the current crisis in the Middle East, which the International Energy Agency (IEA) has described as the most significant in modern history in terms of its impact on the energy sector.

He explained that the crisis has triggered two major shocks: disruptions in energy supplies and sharp increases in prices.

El-Sisi underscored Egypt’s concern over the prolonged conflict, recalling his previous appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump during the war in Gaza, when he stated that Trump was the only leader capable of ending the conflict.

He noted that this effort ultimately led to the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and the adoption of President Trump’s peace plan that brought the war to an end.

He emphasized that the United States, as a global superpower, holds a decisive role in stopping the current conflict, addressing President Trump directly by saying that no one else has the ability to halt the war and urging him, in the name of humanity and peace advocates, to take action.

The President expressed hope for a swift resolution to the crisis to spare the region the devastating consequences of war, stressing the importance of unified international efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

On the energy front, El-Sisi highlighted that the Egypt International Energy Conference has evolved into a leading global platform for dialogue and exchange of perspectives on the future of energy, a sector that serves as a key engine of the global economy. He noted the significant challenges facing the world amid the current crisis and pointed to Egypt’s ongoing cooperation with major international energy companies.

He also stated that any halt or freeze in energy sector activities requires years for production to return to normal levels, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to settling all outstanding dues owed to energy companies by June 2026.

El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s commitment to settling all remaining dues owed to relevant companies by June 2026.

In addition, he referenced ongoing work to integrate Cypriot gas fields into global markets and connect them to Egypt’s liquefaction facilities.

Concluding his remarks, President El-Sisi called on energy companies, particularly those participating in the conference, to intensify efforts to boost production, including new and renewable energy sources, in order to help mitigate the current crisis.
